I am a co-founder of the Share Your Calories Nonprofit (501c3), www.shareyourcalories.com. We have partnered with Stop Hunger Now, a global feeding program in North Carolina, to build an app that adds a feel-good factor to dieting by allowing people to give back. Users will be encouraged to share their "extra" calories with children around the world who can't get enough.
We need seed money in the form of tax-deductible donations to build a MVP to validate our concept. We're looking for any ideas on how to find companies that are interested in funding, perhaps as part of their CSR plan, or as a simple donation. Or, who would offer manpower build or help design as an in-kind donation.
Our ultimate goal is to piggyback the Share Your Calories App on an existing weight-loss app, such as My Fitness Pal. The way it would work: Users will make a pledge (e.g. $15) to cut back a certain number of calories (e.g.. 300 - 500) every day for x number of days (e.g. 30 days). They will ask friends/family to sponsor their weight-loss efforts through social media. They will start their diet/exercise plans, and at the end of their set time, they will have the option to transform their pledge into a donation to Stop Hunger Now: $15 will buy about 50 meals for hungry children. With FF donations factored in, the user has the potential to feed hundreds or even thousands of children as part of their weight-loss journey. Win-win for both sides. All ideas welcome.
