Most VCs are interested in science and scientific innovations. But they're not just interested in theoretical science, but innovations that resolve real problem is fairly large markets. Often you find scientists pursuing efforts in resolving what I'd call "fake problems", which are problems based on their own lab experience, or their own assumptions but not validated in the market.

Echoing Akram, there are an increasing number of investors who will jump into science-focused opportunities, but you need to have the right people behind it and tell the right story.  ie, tell the story on the market and have people behind it that the particular investor believes can get the job done.  It is rare that you will find someone who will fund something based on science or tech alone.  Also, the right people and story can be highly investor dependent, but often involves including some of the people they would reach out to for diligence as part of your extended team.
