Are sales databases accurate?

I'm considering a subscription to Sales Genie. My understanding is that you can pull lists from their data bases with specific filters.
For example, you can pull a list of manufacturing business with $1 million in revenue, with under 10 employees in California. Considering that they have an enormous number of businesses in their data base, it seems like a valuable tool. But, I have to imagine the filters are not perfectly accurate.

Does anyone know how accurate those lists are? Has anyone used sales Genie and have feedback?

My experience with lists and databases is that they are not terribly accurate (60 - 70%, 80% if you are lucky). I research my own lists (using elancers or folks offshore) so that I get the right companies, titles, geographies, etc. Much better to have a list of 3 K names that I am sure are right and than a list of 30 K names that I sourced from a vendor or a database. With email lists, less is more.

Not sure if you've ever been on the catchall side of an email domain, but there are a fair number of names that are made up (never even existed) and then get sold as well as issues purging former employees who have moved on and adjusting titles, etc.

Treat any list you buy as directionally correct until verified.

Do a test with the 30 day trial
There's no blanket answer on quality / finding what you're looking for

Example: I've tried unsuccessfully to find COMMERCIAL real estate firms/brokers, NOT residential.
There happens not to be an accurate SIC / NAIS code. There is also only one real estate license that lets you do both.

Bottom line for what I was looking for: I tried 4 mail list companies, none could do it.
Got suggestions from them like "look for property managers". Really?

I think it depends on a few thing:
  1. who is your ICP (Ideal Customer Profile) 
  2. What industry
  3. Info you seek: Email, Phone, latest headlines?
Regarding your specific example, InsideView does exactly what you want and then allows you build alerts so that information comes inbound to you daily based on what is happening. Also it's native to SFDC and easy to import for reps.

I have not use Sales Genie so I cannot speak to their value or functionality.

DON'T DO IT!  Please do not waste your money Haya!  I advised a start-up last year to not do this.  The CTO was convinced he could make this work.  They spent $10k on the project.  2 leads from $10k spent.  They then came back to me and we spent less than $2k to create a quality lead gen program.  It is a much wiser investment to create a solid lead gen plan and use Google Ad Words, content marketing plan or other advertising to drive potential clients to your lead gen page.  Then, you use a quality CRM/automated marketing program to curate leads to close deals.

Hugh, I actually tried to use an e-lancer for this and it was not satisfactory. Some emails were good but almost 50% were not, and he was a hassle to work with and communicate with. Any tips on how you do it?  I still don't want to buy one of those subscriptions to Sales Genie.

Folks, to circle back on this old post, I eventually started using a company called Craft Leads ( They have a no bounce back guarantee and when I went to cross check some of their leads in Linked In, they were all accurate. And there's no subscription, so I'm pretty happy with them.
