Are there any great content authoring solutions for teams?

Authoring solutions for IP content should allow us to perform following tasks (all or most of these):
1. to provide the structure of the documents to be populated,
2. Assign the forms to different team members
3. Track the progress of various team members
4. Form submissions and peer review for feedback
5. One more round of editing & enhancements to the content
6. Approval and lock the forms in a secured place.

Should we develop our own tool or can we rely on existing online / offline products? Would be great to learn from fellow member's experience.

You can do that with Wordpress or Google Docs - both of which are cheap, easy, widely understood :-)

Thanks Bill. Google docs is awesome for collaboration and content development but in our case we are developing IP specific content. So we need to keep different pieces of the content secured and make it hard to store locally. In Google docs, it might be as easy as copy-paste or save a local copy. Are there ways we can stop that in Google docs?

Would there be similar issues with wordpress?

Hi Manav,
I'd talk to the folks at ShareVault.
It sounds like they do exactly what you want with protecting docs ( they also have fine grained permissions and doc review reporting ).
I can get you a direct contact if you need.

Bill, Karen,

I sent the a regular query after your reference from their online portal. And was able to reach out to Jim. His team is arranging a demo for me next week. Will keep you posted. Would be great to exchange views if you are also looking for similar options. May be we can get a good deal on 1 for 2 offer.  ;)

Best

You can try Smartsheet. We've never used it to its full capability but it seems to be a very powerful tool.

Hi Bill,

We've had problems with using Dropbox as our central data repository. Files keep disappearing!!! I would love your contact at ShareValut. It seems like a great system, but they don't post pricing, which leads me to believe that it's an expensive system. But it never hurts to investigate...
