There are publisher groups that take a cut of developer earnings, meetup groups, FD, etc... but do you know of any co-op style groups that share marketing/development/other resources - or just strategies/support. I'm thinking something that extends online and off - such as when handing out business cards, you might have a shared logo and/or site to direct people to.
The closest thing I've found is player01.com. Are there others that indie developers or small teams could join?
I was involved in the early stages of one in Redmond last year. The leader had too much on his plate and it ran out of gas before it really got off the ground. a lot of time was spent on trying to agree on ground rules for equity splits, IP ownership and administrivia. I think the concept has merit and i'd be interested in giving it getting involved again - time constraints being a significant issue.
I recently submitted to "Hackers and Founders" which is branded as a "co-op" in SF. Is this what you're looking for? Happy to join any roundtable type chat of founders and I know what you're referring to from my gamedev days. I'm firstname.lastname@example.org
In the game/app development space, I was thinking along the lines of a group that got together (online) to share digital assets. So each person/team might have characters/genres that they focused on and would share designs or characters from others across the group. Imagine the 10 different styles/genres of angry birds for example - but done by indies. It would result in faster time to market and higher value properties that could lead to more lucrative merchandising deals.
I think it's becoming obvious with the crush of developers and games, that more teams are spending more time, building higher quality offerings - but making fewer dollars in the end. I haven't found anyone who's teaming up like that on a medium or grand scale.
That H/F group looks pretty interesting. I've seen similar
entrep-focused orgs and there are countless meetups for founders around the country. But, as we're thinking about this, it seems like there's interest in solving
a problem in this space. If anyone's interested, I would be glad to
