Are there any quality software pipeline tools to manage investor prospects?

I run the ServingVETS.com platform which is a reviews and recommendations engine for America's Veterans integrating into civlian life after their Military service. We are growing significantly and are now raising our first angel investment round of funding. We have many interested investors and are also casting a wide net for more investors to maximize the value of our company and find the right fit for us. We are organizing all of the leads and ranking each investor using a simple excel spreadsheet, but I was hoping there would be a software tool out there that could do this for us and do it much better.

Does anyone know of such a tool? It would be similar to Salesforce or SugarCRM, but specifically designed for the unique needs of managing accredited angel investors.

I have been toying with the idea of using a free CRM (e.g. Insightly) for that very purpose. I want to substitute potential sales leads with target investors. I can then create a 'relationship funnel' to track progress among the many investor leads. Like a sales funnel, the relationship funnel would be milestone-based rather than being based on activities.

I've heard good things about Pipedrive but never used it myself. For fundraising, I think it might be overkill - good old google spreadsheet is still my go-to.

Thanks Lucas, I like google sheets, but I wish there was a tool to manage and then create unique links to our business plan that we can track who is viewing and monitor for various stages. I actually have had a person on FD offer to build some software to do it, which is intriguing.

Marc, Yeah, I totally agree and I have used Insightly before. I don't really like it that much honestly. I have had another founder on FD who is thinking of developing the exact software I was talking about, so I am working with him a bit to see if a MVP is in order.

Jonathon - FYI this is a public discussion so Marc and I and the community see all replies. 

I've raised money several times. Honestly, at the seed stage it's not worth having to build a new product. The need is very point in time and fundraising is very much a full time job. Up to you of course, but if you're really committed to raising money for an idea another side project will be difficult.

I would use a pipeline management software like Pipedrive. Although created for sales I use it manage various tasks which involve a pipeline.

Jonathan, in your response to Lucas you have identified a key ingredient of what you are missing - ability to send a your deck or biz plan by hyperlink and track it.   The answer to that is docsend.com.  I started using it for fundraising and wouldn't do it any other way.  Unique links, tracking stats by page, and more.   Great tool.

Streak CRM is pretty good if you like the idea of doing it in gmail, and also includes some nice power gmail features like email tracking, snoozing, email snippets, and send later

I've used Insightly and Streak - and I enjoy both. I would advocate for Streak for pipelines in particular, like managing investors and managing interview prospects/hiring. I use Insight.ly for customer management and as a general database of contacts. Insigh.tly does have project tools, but I like the tight GMail integration of Streak.

None of that helps with tracking biz plan views if you need that, so have to look elsewhere on that front...
