As a start-up providing handymen services on-demand, how do I encourage HandyMen to use this service?

A Friend of mine running a similar startup, and I was one of the board of advisory and mentors. So the trick is you'll have to give them an incentive for joining your platform, and be of your early beneficiaries. Basically, you'll have to give them a unique value and benefit of using your platform than their traditional ways.

This is the classic Chicken-Egg problem.

Handymen need to have jobs ready for them from day one. Therefore, you need to work on the supply side of your service. That is, build a supply of jobs that will incentivize handymen to use your service. For example, you could go around gathering these jobs from homes, offices then list them on your site. Or you could get into a deal with a contractor or sub-contractor who can guarantee a supply of jobs. With these, you can then work on the demand side of your service i.e. the handymen side. With a constant stream of jobs available handymen will be lured to use it.
