At what point do you decide to sell your stock grants?

My friend is about to receive the first chunk of stock from the publicly traded company that she works for. She asked my opinion regarding when to sell, and how much. She is a very risk averse person.

Lots of coworkers seem to just hold their stock though. When thinking about what to recommend to her my mind always flashes back to the scenes from The Smartest Guy in the Room, when the CEO of Enron was encouraging his employees to put their 401k's in the company stock.

As a bonus question, at what point do you get a financial advisor? It seems like it'd be a reasonable time to get one...
