I have recently moved from Australia to the Bay Area to scale my Travel Planning Startup, and I was looking for the best places to go to find technical talent
There are no "best places". I suggest you go to meetups almost every evening as there are developers everywhere and you'll have to do this for months on end. Initially, your main aim should be to find out what their expectations are (in terms of job) rather than trying to recruit them. In other words, you need to learn how to pitch to a Bay Area developer because most of them are getting job offers all the time - I know my employees are.
But the Bay Area is a harsh place to find developers. You're surrounded by startups with significant funding and you're surrounded by startups doing interesting/challenging technical work (cool tech). There is a difference between a "cool app" and "cool tech".
Looking at your website and app, it looks like your main challenge is content, not tech, so you'll find most developers won't find your tech interesting enough to join you. Your possible solution is to find developers who like travel.
