Content Management Platform

I am building a content destination.   What are my best options for a content management solution that will allow my writers and editors to add content, provide formatting and allow for advertisements that are already designed int the layout?

This needs to be able to scale as we add more content, categories and traffic.

Upon launch I expect to have over 500,000 unique visits to the site and will grow.

I am not looking to do this myself but either license and/or hire someone to create this for me.

Thank you.

It depends largely on the format of information but if its text based, WordPress is a great initial option. It scales, handles traffic well, has well integrated permission settings and will allow you to onboard content generators quickly. Also, its free. If it ain't broke... Good luck

Drupal is amazingly scalable and flexible. We've built http://www.mymacs.ca on Drupal a few years ago. It has a community of over 250k registered users and get a considerable amount of traffic on a daily basis.

As I understand it: Wordpress is still king for usability while Drupal is #1 choice for scalability.

Hope it helps.

I'd also recommend Wordpress. There's lots of support, big community, lots of plugins and themes, and plenty of hosting options from cheap and barebones to managed.

If you do go Wordpress, check out Contextly - we're an awesome content suggestion solution for publishers -- whether you are small or big. I was a writer and editor at Wired for a decade before leaving to run this full-time.

I do a lot of work in WordPress and it's been good to me and my clients.  So much so that I'm not as up to speed on the alternatives as I used to be.  Looking forward to what other people have to contribute.

Jordan, can you tell us more about your vision for this site?
