Recommendations for Magento providers to replatform an existing e-commerce site?

Hi I need to replatform an existing ecommerce site - reco has been to do this on Magento to have maximum flexibility with a number of existing plug ins.

We're an online printer, so might use some web2print plugins for functionality as well.

Do you know any good Magento shops preferably in the NY area that could handle a project like this, integrating existing database of customers and website into a replatformed Magento site, then host and manage it ongoing.

Prefer to own the own-able code rather than SaaS it.

Thanks,
Jeff

Most Magento shops specialize themselves in one way or another (strong in creative, optimizing ecommerce conversion, hardcore development, managing servers)

If location of developers in New York is a must, then I'd recommend POD1 and even then, they use offshore developers as well, so you'll pay a premium for a NY team.

Honorable mention, for their work managing services goes to Gorilla.

Feel free to email me with any more detailed questions.

Jeff, I'm not your guy, but I know exactly who is. Former founder of 48hourprint, Billie Mead. I happen to know for a fact he's currently doing Magento sites for printers. Speaking as the founder and product manager of PressWise.com I can tell you Billie is your guy. Let me know if you want an intro. Call my cell below if you'd like to chat. I know other experienced Magento developers doing print sites as well if you need more names. Best Regards, Eric Wold ewold@aethos.com 818-851-8170 Sent from my iPhone

Jaff, I have to ask, why? Why Megento? It's an excellent ecommerce platform, no doubt, but in many situations I've seen it's huge overkill, akin to killing house flies with, well, a house. We've found that we can do everything you might need using WordPress and and an ecommerce plugin like WooCommerce or Cart66. It will cost less to build and maintain, and has the added value of being usable as a traditional website as well. Just a thought.
