They contacted me to let me know they listed my app and are asking for $100 for a premium review. Has anyone used? Noticed an uptick in downloads because of them?

Hello friends, if you want to increase app downloads, I recommend you buy app downloads from ASOTOP1, which is a professional company have helped many app developers. They can help increase app downloads and boost app ranking via app store optimization. And they can promise that every downloads is from real phone users. They have many countries phone users for you, you can choose the country you want to buy according to your own need. It is very useful for app promotion. So if you have interest, you can have a try. Also if you need positive app reviews to help increase app downloads, you can buy app reviews from here, they also can promise they provide real users 5 star app reviews.

I've not tried them, but you can give it a try if they also "send their latest reviews" via email, social media etc. to their readers; that gives you a visibility. Their site SEO score is good also; so once they publish review, you can link that up on your site and try spreading the content across reddit etc.

I run an app development company www.agicent.com and we hear such stories from our customers frequently, some benefit and some don't. The best way to get early traction is any kind of press review, its hard to get but if you put your energy and time to woo journos then you get great chance.

A lot depends upon what kind of app you have also, appzoom is apps specific but you can contact with sites related to domain of your app and it can get more specific readers.

Other than get reviewed from app review sites, I would rather get app reviews in the app stores. Because about 65% user download a new app in the app stores, and about 95% users will take the app reviews as one of the most important reference factors to judge the app - most people prefer to download an app which has much more positive reviews.
