What was your experience?
We are not a tech company which is a problem when many of the investors/advisers who participate have tech backgrounds.
We are pre revenue. We joined the program for exposure and a fair shot at $50K first prize, $30K second prize...etc.. We were outgunned by the top start ups as they were all operating. My fault, should have seen it coming, but, at least we got a shot.
Got an offer for a state subsidized development grant.
Like anything else, think carefully about what you want from the program.
As a founder, it is your job to get the company underway. The program was demanding and took travel money, time (5 months)and energy in the effort to "win". Perhaps you are better off using those resources to focus on the start up itself.
Exposure is what we needed and got it, except, it didn't work for us.
Met a lot of great people!
My team members are mentoring on TechStars now. Write me to firstname.lastname@example.org i will tell you more
I have participated in an accelerator, but as a mentor and volunteer. I'm currently the National Alumni Chair for the Cleantech Open - no equity but no guaranteed funding. We have some very successful Alumni.
