I am a CTO looking to partner up with a cofounder on part comp/ part equity. Any pointers on how to find one? What's there to discuss in a partnership like this?

Is there a particular industry you are interested in, fintech, edtech, wearable, etc. etc.? You can go to their tech start up events and start networking and see who you meet. Go to some pitch events and see what you like. Sometimes schools run entrepreneurial challenges where people come together and literally "date". I know NYU holds one. Good luck!

Hi Waleed,

This all my opinion, only. Your technical capabilities are secondary to how you and your cofounder get along. I’m looking for a CTO. I know I have a big and sometimes overwhelming personality. I need someone that can stand up to that and bluntly say bull shit. Be willing and able argue your position.

The next important item item is when things go very badly or very side ways, will your cofounder stick with you.

You're looking to join a startup or you have a startup and looking for a cofounder?

I'd go to networking events/meetups in the area you are looking to found a company, meet few people with similar interests and see where the conversation heads. If you get along well with them (good chemistry) and if they complement your skills then I'd suggest discussing your desire of seeking a co-founder. My recommendation is to figure out if there is a mutual interest and then work on the formal structure - equity, compensation, titles, etc.
