This question is too vague. Like any industry or idea, if you want to make connections, start being present where those people are. Listen to help, not find to push. If you don't know what your audience needs and wants, you won't know the way in to have them return a favor. Always approach by learning what you can do for them, from their perspective, not by offering options. I don't want to be pitched. But I will stop for a minute to talk to someone who takes genuine interest in what I'm doing. If after some time we build rapport and trust, I might in turn ask them what they're interested in and return the favors they provided me. Also consider an approach where you ask others who they know who is involved in X, instead of targeting them directly. Make it so the person you're talking to can be the one doing a favor for someone who wants what you have.
