How do the local digital media live?

There seems to be a growing number of new local "newspapers" which are created in a digital format. Nothing is printed.
What are their business models?
Do they work with volunteers or can they afford to pay employees?
A great idea is 1% of the work. Execution is the other 99%. In this course, we’ll teach you how to conduct market analysis, create an MVP and pivot (if needed), launch your business, survey customers, iterate your product/service based on feedback, and gain traction quickly.

Christian, the business model is the same as printed versions. Advertising supported. Of course if they use syndicated content their costs of acquiring edit are lower than if they had all full time paid employees. If you look at how their sites are designed it takes you into what I call a "wormhole of content" encouraging you to click for more by providing bits and pieces of the story. Each time you click to see the rest of the content another set of ads appears. ===============================

Hi David:

Thanks for your explanation. I noticed what you call the "wormhole of content" but I was not aware that it was the opportunity to have new adds appear.

Thanks again!
