How to get private product reviews for Amazon launch?

Erin Koehler Product Manager at Kinsa

We're about to launch our product on Amazon and have been advised to test the waters first by getting private reviews of our product -- in order to understand whether there's anything we need to fix before launching publicly. Has anyone worked with or know of a company that can manage this for us, at reasonable cost? Any other tips for a successful Amazon launch?

Thanks!
Erin
A great idea is 1% of the work. Execution is the other 99%. In this course, we’ll teach you how to conduct market analysis, create an MVP and pivot (if needed), launch your business, survey customers, iterate your product/service based on feedback, and gain traction quickly.

Erin,

Noticed that you went to Haas.  I am a serial entrepreneur and also faculty of innovation at Haas at Berkeley.  We have launched a platform at Produk.me in public beta to collect direct private feedback from customers on consumer products. I would love to share more with you and see if we could help you. We completed two solid public betas in the past 6 weeks. These brands have collected amazing product feedback pre launch with our platform and will be leveraging our platform for post purchase product onboarding and insights collection through life of the product.

Thank you and will connect with you on linkedin as well. Thx, Ajay

If your budget is small you may want to contact bloggers and mail them samples.

I don't know a company that can manage this for you, but the best advice I can give for an Amazon launch is this, and it's pretty simple:

You probably already know that reviews and ratings heavily drive sales on Amazon. Figure out how long reviews will lag sales. (Will your customers know immediately if they like your product? Will it take them a few days? Weeks?) Once you find up a way to line up reviewers pre-launch, send them your product ahead of time so they'll be ready to review right at your launch. Time it correctly and you'll have a much stronger launch on Amazon.

You can figure out the timing through your private reviewers - how long does it take them to get back to you with feedback?

On a successful Amazon launch... Not sure if this works anymore but one strategy I heard of a couple of years ago was to tell your customers (assuming you have a large email list) when you will launch the product and have them all buy said product on a given day and review it. The idea is to bump you up to the top of the reviews and sales charts. You can incentivize your list by offering them a bonus for buying on launch day.
