How to reach groups of users that know each other for the beta of our social investing app.

A little background on my app called Grain. The goal is to help millennials invest in what they know with who they know. We accomplish this with (1) a social aspect that lets you share ideas and trading activity with Facebook friends and (2) a discovery engine where users can find stocks and funds based on familiar concepts and keywords (e.g. - search "wearable tech" and results are Fitbit, Apple, Samsung, etc.).

Right now you can only interact with Facebook friends (investing with who you know). For our beta we want to onboard groups of more than 10 people that already know each other. We are already starting to reach out to university investment clubs. How else could we find and reach similar groups?
Growth-hacking isn’t about quick wins and shortcuts, although they exist. In this course, we’ll cover the six-step growth hacking framework, how to measure user retention for your business, how to increase engagement and retention, and a bunch of case studies.

First off, love the idea. Investing and money managing/payment gateways can be highly lucrative, and have been exposed as a disrupt-able industry for the last few years. If you can create a knowledge center of how successful people manage their money this would be highly valuable for the novice first time investor. I would also try and open this up to more social groups i.e. Linkedin, twitter. I'd be happy to talk through this further if you're interested. Good luck!

I just hope you also use words like "food", "stores", "energy", etc. - or else they'll all end up with a portfolio of trendy stuff whose shares may not do too well!

As for reaching out to similar groups, secondary schools would also be a good hunting ground for you: many now run courses in personal finance and some run business clubs.

Kind regards,
Henry

Encourage people to sign up and tell them that they can get more/better investment ideas by inviting their friends as well and asking them to send invites via Facebook social sharing.  Once you have them in the system, you can periodically ping them to login or complete a profile or invite friends.
