Aerospace is expensive and competitive. We have patents and some engineers. What is the best way to get started?

Indeed, my Linkedin profile suggests a few ways we can meet these goals. With small prototypes in unmanned vehicles we can substantially boost performance in a big new market. Building on that base we can step into suborbital research with reusable systems that offer a soft payload recovery even in some abort situations. Another level can be aerodynamic hypersonic orbital systems that offer big delta vee on air breathing boosters and full reusability. I hope we hit at least ONE target in there!
If you're looking for investment, there are groups like the Space Angels Network. But overall my impression is that it's much tougher to raise money compared to software or internet companies. My 2 cents would be to find "believers" who are as much or more interested in the idea of aerospace overall as they are in the business potential. Feel free to ping me directly if you want to pick my brain on my (albeit not extensive) experience...
Using at maximum the resource you mention patents and
engineers, bring on market product or service based on that; these products or service
must improve safety or reduce cost for existing products or services…
