In San Francisco for a week a month and looking for events and activities

Currently, I live in the DC area.  But, over the next several months, I'll be happily in SF for one week a month.  I'm looking to take advantage my time there by indulging in the bay area startup scene.  Looking for recommendations for activities and events where I could possibly learn new software technology, entrepreneurship techniques, funding strategies, design ideas, or startups, in general.  What do the people who live in the bay area do to stay engaged?

Ton of great things happen all the time. Good places to start: SF Hardware meetup, Internet of Things meetup. And check the StartupDigest calendar: https://www.startupdigest.com/digests/silicon-valley

There are meetups almost every day, so definitely check those out. There is also the launch festival which is at the end of February (24-26) http://events.launch.co/festival I went to it last year and it was awesome Hope that helps! - DBH

Welcome,

Yes, I would start with meetups. Sometimes people you've heard of will present.
There are also events...
Besides the usual big conferences, there are also small, 1-2 day conferences.
For example, Google had one on Chrome in November.

There are also a lot of Startup Weekend / hackathons. It seems like almost every month.

Also, you might checkout co-working spaces.
They also have events -- that may or may not be on meetup.
There are quite a few is San Francisco.
And here in Mountain View we have a semi-famous one called hackerdojo.

good luck

where to begin! There are so many classes/conferences/meetups it's mind-boggling. If you're going to be in and out of the area, I would get on a few mailing lists so you'll know what's happening ont he dates you'll be here. I'll email you a couple that I'm on separately. Rachel

Hi AAron,

Check out the Hacker Dojo in mountain view. They usually have free events in the weekend/evenings.
Its a great place to network and actually you can co-work  24/7 from there at 100$ month. It is member supported and run and a really cool place to hang out. I joined this month and am glad I did.

Same, and I'm also interested in more informal stuff, like hiking with other entrepreneurs on the weekend.

I would suggest looking on meetup.com and joining the groups that interest you and attending their meetups.

Also checkout letslunch.com - I havent used them but the service looks cool, I will be using them when I move to the bay area in the next few weeks.
