While our knowledge is rich in understanding the positive and negative outcomes of failure in the entrepreneurship context, we know a little about how these outcomes impact failed entrepreneur’s future career choice. Understanding this subject is important because both exit and re-entry can benefit or harm the entrepreneurship ecosystem, as well as the individuals. If the individuals are not suitable for an entrepreneurial career, remaining in the ecosystem is harmful. In contrast, the exit is damaging if the failure is just a stepping stone that weeds out an unviable option and paves the way for a successful business. Also, leaving entrepreneurship after failure results in knowledge exit from entrepreneurial ecosystem at the macro level, and at the individual level hampers opportunities to benefit from failure experience and learnings; thus, hurts both. The research question is: How do entrepreneurs choose their future career after failure and what factors influence this choice? This research will investigate the entrepreneurs’ exploratory journey after failure; hence, will develop a deep understanding of the process of choosing future career option and the impact of the consequences of failure and individual factors on this choice by comparing two groups of entrepreneurs – those who choose to re-enter and those who exit entrepreneurship.
