Is there a number of transactional emails you cap yourself at?

We’ve already sent more emails this year than we did all of last year. While we were light on email last year, we want to make sure we aren’t overdoing it in our new email marketing push. We want to avoid email fatigue and distorting our user experience. What is the maximum amount of transactional emails your business sends per month? Any best practices or resources you use?

A great idea is 1% of the work. Execution is the other 99%. In this course, we’ll teach you how to conduct market analysis, create an MVP and pivot (if needed), launch your business, survey customers, iterate your product/service based on feedback, and gain traction quickly.

I recommend checking out the articles on the Campaign Monitor and MailChimp. They have tons of articles on best practices for email marketing and much of their advice comes from studies and experts.

Hey Varun! I've struggled with this at previous companies, so I built a web app to monitor transactional emails, even if they're sent from multiple services. You can set up an alert when someone gets more than x emails per day/week/month and actually see which emails were sent.

Anyway, I'd love your feedback: www.thinboxapp.com.

Rather than focusing on the number of emails you send, focus on why you're sending those emails. Sparkpost's API has some cool tools to make sure that the emails your company's sending are based on actionable information (example: it's been 2 weeks since your user logged in - your company might want to check in and see what's up with the user).

Disclaimer: I do not work for Sparkpost, but they did have some super helpful reps at AngelHackSF last weekend that were great to work with!

Varn, your question is a bit confusing - your question ask about transactional emails , but then the details state "... overdoing it in our new email marketing push". Are you concerned about transactional emails (i.e. join confirmation, welcome, password reset, system notifications, etc.) or marketing emails or both? Are you marketing emails also targeted at existing users?
