Kahuna vs. urban airship?

I'm doing a side-by-side of Kahuna vs. Urban Airship and wanted to hear from others who have used either - specifically what you like, don't particularly like or what key differences are

I've used UrbanAirship on a few different projects over the last couple years.

I'm looking for something else now.  Why?  Because UA doesn't provide any feedback metrics.  I don't know what you are using your push notes for...but I have found that I want to know which push notes users take action on and which ones they ignore and there is just no facility in UA to track that, where I am seeing this feature available in many other offerings.  Still looking...but I'm done with UA I think.

Quick side questions. Do Kahuna, or Urban Airship allow to push notifications only on your own app? Or they are platforms with access to third party apps who participate in their program? Not familiar with the mechanics.

Hi - there are so many more options for including push, in app, communications that allow you more control, visibility, security available as options these days. Sent from my iPhone

I'd second what Ryan said - don't limit yourself to looking at just Kahuna or Urban Airship. There are many more fully featured and easier to use solutions out there - Swrve, Appboy, Localytics being a few. (I run product at Swrve and would be happy to talk with you.)

Hi, I was the CMO of Amino Apps and helped select Kahuna. We couldnt afford Urban Airship. Also Urban Airship was too complicated. What I liked about Kahuna was the pricing, especially as related to the # of re-activations. Im not sure if it has changed. Depending on your needs (what kind of push), I might also put localytics in the mix. They have a new marketing platform that is supposed to be decent happy to put you in touch with my friends over there. ace

I found Urban Airship easy to use and it's very fast. It's designed for bulk blasts, but it performs well on personalized single content. The one fly in the ointment is that you have to pass the data in slightly different formats for Android, iPhone and Blackberry. I have no idea why, it's 100% stupid. I wrote my own wrapper, took maybe an hour, but they should have done that on their end. My $0.02 Cheers Dave

I would also suggest a bunch of open source options that allow you to roll your own messaging capabilities, providing you more control, improved security and flexibility to try many things. Magnet it even Layer. Sent from my iPhone
