Measuring Magic: How do you keep track of outcomes for testing customer acquisition channels?

Hey everyone,

Guess it's not really "magic" but I am trying to work on my catchy titles for blog posts.  We have our first classes up for my start up SitterCycle.com and I am running small targeted campaigns over Facebook and some keywords over Google AdWords. I know there are fancy tools, but I read this http://onstartups.com/tabid/3339/bid/82788/Building-It-Is-Not-Enough-5-Practical-Tips-On-User-Acquisition.aspx and I am a huge fan of keeping it simple (and cheap).

How did you measure outcomes and other than the obvious (lead conversion) how did you measure how effective one channel was over another? What should I care about on our Analytics dashboard? Anything to watch out for?
