Offshore contractor recommendations

Agatha Precourt Co-Founder and Brand Chief at Patter (WAG Ideas)

Wondering if anyone has had good experience with an offshore contractor (ios development) that they would recommend?  We've tried Odesk, but the contractor was dishonest -- so now looking for someone whose integrity and work quality have been vetted.  Thanks in advance.

I've been working with an amazing team in Ukraine for the past year. I first started working with them while we were both doing work for a marketing firm, and have since completed many projects together. I've found the developers themselves are generally quite entrepreneurial, going beyond just developing to spec, getting a good understanding of the project and adding a great amount of value. They're now doing work for several startups in North America (including lots of mobile apps) in addition to the usual agency and enterprise clients. LEZGRO has consistently delivered the right stuff, on time, the first time. The founder is Ihor Pidruchny, and can reached at ihor.pidruchny@lezgro.com, or 'mogilers' on Skype. Happy to make an introduction.

Have you looked south? ( i.e. We are a "near shore" outsourcing company based in Austin, Texas with
offices in Mexico City and Buenos Aires, Argentina?

I have worked with Steve Mezak, Founder of Accelerance http://accelerance.com/  What they are is a offshore development aggregator, They look at your needs and have partnerships with offshore development companies around the world to find the best match for your company. Looking at factors like skills, languages, time zones, etc... to take some of the headache out of finding the best source. If you do use him, if you could let him know I referred that would be great. Thanks K

I used Elan Emerging Technologies to build my current site at www.vinoservant.com along with an IOS and Android app.  I was extremely happy with them. You should contact Rich.  He is in Chicago. See contact info below. More than happy to introduce you two via email. Elan has a team based in India. The way they work is the following:

-       You send them a spec document that explains what you are looking for

-       Elan will come back with questions, and then provide you an estimate

If you move forward, they will then want to write a comprehensive spec document. I paid them $500 for this document (70 pages). In this spec document they will provide you a final quote. If you are unhappy with the spec document or think they can’t perform, then you are only out $500, and the spec document is yours.

Elan uses Basecamp to deal with all issues and questions once the project is started. They charged me around $10,000 for the site and applications, and they recently added some features that cost me another $2,400. All in all I am very happy.

You should also look into Fingent.com. They've got  iOS but also a good bench of platform independent developers with both HTML5 and flex builder. They like to work with startups.

Let me know if you'd like an intro to them.

Company I used in the past:

XPANTEAM
Madhavan Rangarao,
Chief Technology Officer
madhavan_rangarao@yahoo.com
510-366-7070

Their CTO is local.  Dev resources are in India.  So, you get support, discussions etc during local time here with development happening in India while you sleep.  Worked out for us.

Hi Agatha: I used to run an iOS contractor company in Chile, before I moved here. Chile has some timezone advantages (we share half day, so they can work off and on your timezone). Let me know if you are interested. --Felipe B. 1-650-730-0901
