I am software engineer with 7+ years experience.
I run a consulting firm which is doing decent. Most of the projects I have done are through my network and referrals. Now, I am ready to quit my job and do this full time. I already have a team of 10+ engineers and designers.
I want to know the best strategies to get more clients. I have a inbound strategy in mind and working on it. But, looking for some outbound tips. Who do I reach out to? And, since I am not good a business development myself, does it make sense to hire someone?
I am happy to hear all kind of suggestions :)

My advice is to find out who is your target audience, where do they spend time in the web and place there your advertisment. It is the best way to find new leads. If you want to find leads with a huge budget, you should consider visiting conferences. Hope my answer was helpful for you.
There is no "one thing" that will work - you need a system.
A system that works for someone else, may not work for you. You will have to develop your own system.
Start by modeling different GTM (Go To Market) strategies. Then, start at the top of the funnel and work your way down.
Hiring someone to develop a system is almost impossible. I have tried at least 10 times and failed. In all likelihood, you will have to develop the system yourself.
Once a part of the system is working, hire someone and train them to execute the system.
Expect it to take years before it works even reasonably well.
Before you quit your job get all the contacts there first. Then, consider a new job that allows you to know many people. You can quit after you get all their connections. Also, going to networking events, exhibition and conference relating to your industry also helps.
Do you have a website or social media? Having a strong online presence is crucial to your success. Hiring someone with good marketing skills will also help but they will need to know your industry well to be able to bring in more clients.
Finally, your team of 10+ engineers and designers are a good asset to you. But you need to beware if they are taking your clients for themselves. You can consider having a transparent or commission system for them to introduce new clients to you.
