Recommendations on Content/Web Development Vendors?

I was wondering if there are recommendations on vendors that create content (clearly state message that resonates with target market) and also development websites.

We do both of these services (http://www.thisismess.com), but I don't want to whore myself out too much.

There are probably tons of qualified companies out there, you just gotta narrow things down.

Are you looking for someone local? Where are you located? Is there a specific demo you're targeting? Any specific web stacks (Ruby/Drupal/Django, etc)?

Michael, thank you for your feedback.  The product already exists with two components, static pages for visitors and dynamic pages for current consumers of the site.  My aim is to have the static pages cleaned up where the message is simple and clear to new visitors.

The other thread has a different purpose altogether and it is not related.

In my experience it is incredibly hard to align incentives in vendor client relationships.

Ideally we all want to optimize for speed, quality and cost. But in reality you can only optimize for two qualities at the same time .

Unless you are choosing a top billing firm like Pivotal labs, its is very likely that the outsourcing firm you pick is working with mid tier talent at best.

That being said, outsourced teams can be great in getting hacking together a proof of concept.

I have rarely seen hands off approach work for early stage products. An effective approach would be to have someone technical on your team that is savvy enough to communicate, drive and manage the outsourced development on daily basis.

As you see traction you will have to take the call on developing your own talent or investing in developing the talent of an outsourced partner.

I am biased towards building my own teams however i have known entrepreneurs who have done fairly well with outsourced teams.

Hi Asad,
Great to meet you.   I have been using some great developers in Costa Rica to do web and content developers.  We are not an outsourcing company but help with headhunting / recruiting the top near shore talent for growing companies that have experience managing remote developers effectively without the extra overhead of project management.

Happy to share more if you are interested.

Asad, based on the other thread, I think you still have to nail your positioning and should not be looking for a web development firm until you've done that. If you need help, find someone with a strong background in product management or even product marketing and grind through this effort. Otherwise you may find that you have the same confused everything-for-everyone messaging but just with nicer-looking colors.

Hello Asad.

You've asked kind of a loaded question.  What is the scope, target audience, target platform(s), budget, in-house manpower of the project?  And could you give a quick description of the project in mind? (social media clone, b2b portal, online-sales platform, etc).

There are simply too many options depending on your particular case.  If you could provide some more information, I'd be happy to lend my expertise.  I do freelance web work and have done everything from a simple artist page where he/she presents their work with a more-or-less out-of-the-box WordPress installation to working in a large international team to roll out business solutions for A-list companies in 100 countries/languages targeted for every OS and mobile device imaginable and everything in between.

My personal philosophy is two-fold: everything is possible, and customer is king.  I find that when I work within those bounds, I'm almost always able to accommodate clients and get them what they want, when they want it, for a price within their budget.  Or if not, I'm certainly willing to point them in the right direction.
