Suggestion for Mobile App Pricing

Anonymous

September 25th, 2018

Hello Everyone

For healthcare EMR mobile app available on ios, android, windows and mac, We have launched different pricing between India and rest of the world.

My sales team are promoting app in middle east where most of the doctors are Indians. Indians doctors in Middle East claims that they are from India and they signing up from India and take 80% discount on Middle East price. They can directly pay on app store, play store and paypal. That is a huge revenue loss for us.

I am thinking to implement below:

1) Kept the same price between India and rest of the world. Give direct discount to Indian docs from India.

Appreciate suggestions from you guys!

It is hard to manage multiple tiers of pricing if it becomes publicly available. In those cases, use a single tier and use discounts to manage it. Another option is not to make pricing public.

Perhaps you could give the discount as a function of where the recipient bank is located.

Could you require their location as part of the functionality of the app, and if you paid for India, it should only work in India?

Thank you for your response. You are right. The recipient from UAE wants discount and match it to Indian plan and pricing. If we give our products at India price in UAE, it is peanuts for them. Also, non Indian docs in UAE will also start asking to match the Indian pricing.

For example, We are talking to a chain of Indian Clinic in UAE who is interested to take 50 user accounts. When they came to know that we are offering the same product in India at 20% price, they have leverage to negotiate with us and they threaten us that if we dont give the huge discount they will signup from their Indian hospitals and use it UAE. It is attractive for them to get 50 accounts signup from India office.

If we increase our price in India as per global market, we will have to give discounts to everyone in India and can't make any sale through play store or app store directly.

No. Location is not required as a part of the functionality of the app and we haven't built Arabic language app separately.

There is an another issue.

Also most of the doctors in UAE are expats and studied in India. They signup using UAE cell phone as a user name, but their app store/play store accounts (based on gmail country) are from India. When they go for the payment, it opens India's app store/play store account rather than UAE App/play store.

Can you track their location when they download? It will not be perfect, but could assist.

Yes that is an option but we need to ask everyone's location permission which is not required in EMR apps.

Thank you. We can manage single tier with the discounting.

Hi, I dont think your subscriptions prices would be so high so as to motivate users to manipulate. Keeping prices same across and giving direct discounts to Indian doctors will require you to identify the user location. So the whole ball game comes to identifying a user location and authenticity. 1. Make the user device share the location (through permissions) so that whenever user logs in and is at the payment stage the App will identify the GPS location and based on it allow the User to go ahead with the payment with location based pricing 2. Deploy two factor authentication wherein an OTP will be sent to the user and s/he has to enter it at the payment stage If you find both the above not feasible than the best way would be that the Indian doctor in India also pays the same price. Then you verify the user credentials and if genuine reimburse discount amount back after say 2-3 days.

What does the app do and how much do you plan to charge in India and the rest of the world.
