The way to get early adopters - with a prize?

We are building the social app where you can share your preferences/attitudes in the way of pictures set in 2 categories - Yay in Orange, Nay in Grey.
As it is expected, the new social app always slow on getting early adopters, so we thought about making some small competition where we have a special tag for a week and then decide which picture with that tag gets the prize - like t-shirt.

What would you think? Would it be enough to make people install it from playstore/itunes and post a pic?

* In case you want to try - ask me, I don't want to post a link, it is not a promotion, but a question. You can find it in playstore or iTunes - Orangry

Thanks!

It might.  I did something similar with an Android app (TimeCaster) I deployed back in June of last year, and it did not work for me.  But you may have better luck.

we tried something similar as a quick trial, even bought ads highlighting the prize, but got very little additional uptake

Stan, what is the value proposition of your application?

Rob, thank you for your question.

Our value propositions are

1) ability to build strong and harmonious relationships with friends;

2) improving the quality of the life by decreasing of repetition negative experience.

The fist is coming through knowledge of each other's preferences, the second is connected with learning from user own and others failures, which users publish in Grey=dislike category).
