Thoughts on Slack for corporations?

Read earlier a threat talking about the usage of Slack for businesses. Would this work for a large corporation?

Slack is a great collaboration & communication tool:   I found it esp. useful when you want to maintain a repository of info around a single subject, i.e.
- a product launch team can post meeting notes, spreadsheets, and all the launch-related info the team creates and discusses.
- a company's re-branding task force might keep all survey data and art files in one place, along with comments on each and discussion threads on the project.
Plus it's very easy to use.  Whoever initiates a new "channel", invites the relevant participants.

Hey Chris,

We also use Slack. Like Valentina said, it is a great tool. My companies board is spread out across the country and it makes keeping in touch daily very easy. We have also used Trello.. but it hasn't taken off as we would have liked. Its more of a notes page about issues in a project, something we pull up during meetings to address key issues.

Hi Chris,

We have been using Slack for a while and I can tell you that its a great tool. It has substitute all the email between employees.

We have integrated with:

1- Jell:  a daily planning so all of us are informed on what everyone is doing
2- Pivotal tracker: project management for the developed team
3- Trello  project management for the rest of the team
4- Freshdesk  our customer service platform
5- Hangout to have our conference call since most of us work remotely.

So I highly recommended

Hope this was helpful,

We used slack at the last two schools I taught at (iOS dev bootcamps) and loved the product.  It is very well written - user friendly and very helpful.

Chris I used it once in a classic project environment.  I loved it.  So easy to be totally in touch and on top of things.  No experience with plug ins.

Slack is a great small team IM tool, I've used it for several projects and we use it now actually. The challenge you'll face as a manager is when you get to 20+ people in a room and there is a lot of chatter. If you don't stay on top of the conversation as a manager you'll lose a lot of valuable information or sped a lot of time trying to dig it out.

The tool I'm working on right now, UpCurrent ( is actually a multiplatform plugin for Slack as well as Saleforce and Google Apps for larger, dispersed teams. The plugins allow for easy login and notifications. We focus on discussion/suggestion tiles to organize information. We enable crowd voting, commenting and collaboration on the topic tiles in a pivot table like dashboard so managers can quickly get to the important stuff without having to scroll back through long conversations or completely miss something important.

We're looking for pilot program partners if anyone is interested in trying it out.

The only risk with Slack is using bots or plugins especially if you're dealing with sensitive data or PII. The risk is that anyone (China, Russia, etc.) can build a slack bot to respond to questions on your chats. Our team got a lunch bot, which would hit the website of our lunch supplier and tell us what lunch was going to be. Except it had to read every word of our conversations to listen for "lunch".
We couldn't find out where the bot was built- so we stopped using unknown bots.
