Finding cofounders

To CTO/Cofounder, how do you decide to join a startup?

What excites you to join a startup? What do you expect, other than the similar vision thing? Do you expect to work with an existing product or build one from scratch? I am looking for a co-founder / CTO who can help me build the product. Where as I come from the business, digital marketing and semi-technical background, I expect my co-founder to have deep programming knowledge, App and Web.

Assuming you are at par with the vision of the company and the product excites you, what else do you see in a potential startup?

Here's a scenario:

1. Product roadmap - Done

1.1. Prototypes (HF Wireframes) - Done

2. Financial Model - Done

3. Business roadmap - Done

I am giving you 25% - 45% of the share, which matures over time. You love the vision & the product. Now what will stop you from joining me? What would you like to see other than the above mentioned documents to get on board?

Thank you.

Do you and I get along? Do we trust each other?

Everything else is negotiable, but trust and getting along are non-negotiable - especially as we'll be living like a married couple for possibly a good few years!

Hi Rajat,

I would have to agree with Justin. Most of the time, they would like to be paid for building out the product since it is very time intensive. If you aren't in a position to bring someone on that way, I would be patient and start building relationships with developers (this takes time). That way you can start building that trust.

Hope that helps!

Best regards,

Dave
