What tools do you use to document and analyze customer interviews or focus groups output?

Do you use Excel/ docs or do you know some specialized tools that helps  you quickly take notes, tag responses, sort, segment based on certain  criteria, maybe with text analysis included ?

Also, what was your experience with those tools and what do you recommend?

A little beyond Google Spreadsheets, we've been trying which can do some of the things you mentioned.

Basically, it's a more robust/smarter spreadsheet system which might be good for your application.

I've integrated audience voting devices into my trivia game system and the same devices provide the capability to capture audience responses during an inteview/focus group.  Votes can be captured anonymously in situations where that is important.  Results can be recorded in Excel or written to a database as part of a custom application.

Google Forms has worked well for us.
We created a questionnaire that our interviewer refers to and fills out on an Ipad.  You can write yes/no, mulitple choice or open ended questiions and then Google presents all the data in a single spreadsheet.  The "summary of responses"  page will show you the percentage of people who responded yes or no etc.
