I attended a two-day seminar last fall about using cryptocurrency for musicians. If any entrepreneurs out there who currently work in the film and media industries have used cryptocurrency to finance projects, please let me know of both the advantages and challenges.
The greatest disadvantage is that too few people spend cryptocurrency so your audience of potential spenders (customers, donors, etc.) is dramatically smaller.
Eric anything is possible. The biggest questions you have to answer are how the filmmakers and hence the actors get paid? If it is one film being financed that may be doable. When you are cross collateralizing multiple films....its challenging enough with real dollars. Admittedly I know very little of crypto currency, other than my overall gut feeling is that it is more of a flash in the pan than something that is going to be sustained. From an entire capital structure, it just seems a tough approach. I also don't know how you would verify with your senior debt elements of a film. Another big catch is that agents want to see verifiable funds in an account before they start entertaining pay or play offers to their clients. Again, anything is possible. Look at what netflix did. At one point people said that would not float. Always a first. I am happy to be a sounding board based on my experience with independent and studio funded movies if you are interested. Just reach connect on here.
cryptocurrency is already dying.
