Accounting

Validation stage: Any accounting-related professionals interested in describing major pain points?

I\'m interested in working with a group to build an accounting-related
project. We\'re still experimenting and trying validate the idea. The intent
is to improve certain processes typically found in smaller accounting
departments (1-6 people).

If you\'re in anyway tied to an accounting department, or maybe used to work
in one, or maybe have a friend who is in one, or whatever, could I spare
you for a few minutes to run some open-ended questions by you?

If you provide the open-ended questions, I\'m sure many people could distribute the survey to people in our networks.

Agreed. I\'m not an accountant but my brother-in-law is and he\'s always looking for better solutions for his two-man practice.

Some of the questions we\'re interested in asking include:

- What are some of the biggest pain points your accounting department
faces on a regular basis?
- How do you maintain your close process?
- Can you describe your version control process?
- How do you sign off or control your worksteps, procedures, and journal
entries?
- Do you have any experience with a SOX compliant company? Can you
describe their process of becoming SOX compliant?
- What steps are taken to streamline audits? What is the most difficult
part of the audit process?
- What issues, if any, do you face during your close process?
- If your company has issues during the close, what can you do to
improve it?
- What software, tools, or education can be used to improve the close
and how much effort would it take to implement such tools?
