Just came up with a random feature idea for my website, it's called viewpoint. Viewpoint is a place where a person read a piece of content on any website and then s/he can further ask other people of their community to share their viewpoint on same topic. It's like sharing your own experience on a piece of content, read by some other people. What do you think about it guys please share your opinion. Thanks in advance
Good idea. Similar service (probably) is ASK dot com as people can keep asking for questions.
Research the market and if you can fit in, deliver MVP
This is easy, even without reading what your feature is. A mistake. Same answer to any feature. People do NOT buy features, they buy benefits. That initially sounds harsh, saying it's a bad start. But it is one of the most common mistakes that companies make, selling features instead of benefits.
People make purchase/use decisions based on three factors: 1) personal benefit, 2) dramatic difference, 3) reason to believe. A feature is getting from point A to point B. A benefit is getting from point A to point B the fastest possible way. If you're selling a feature, then it doesn't matter whether you get to your destination by horse, by skateboard, or by airplane. If you're selling a benefit then shortest travel time is what you're selling.
Stop thinking about what Viewpoint can do. Instead, think about why anyone cares (how it personally benefits the user). And isn't this feature what people use subreddits for today?
The main benefit I think about viewpoint is that a person post some query or quotes s/he read from a blog, website and then s/he ask other people of the community to share their thinking about the same topic, and other people can also read it and mark those viewpoints as AGREE or DISAGREE. In this way they know the perspective of other people and on the other hand they will get the opportunity to show case their stand on the topic
