What are some great UI/UX design / web design conferences?

I've been two 500Startups Warm Gun conferences and some AIGA conferences which are great, and local (SF). I'm wondering if there are some other ones in other cities I should be attending.

Any feedback on the following would be greatly appreciated or feel free to recommend others:
    • Jakob Neilsen Conference (put on by the NN Group)
      • NYC
      • seems pricey but maybe its worth it
      • UX focused
    • 99U
      • NYC
      • more focused on entrepreneurship
      • design focused

I tend to feel like most conferences are not worth the money unless they are a) small and invite-only or b) you're speaking (and hence can go for free). Maybe design conferences are different?

Normally I agree with you, but I've met my mentor at the last conference.

I think conferences can definitely be worth it, but it also greatly depends on how much time you spend learning on your own. If you buy, and read, all the latest UX books, then it's likely that the conferences won't offer you too much new.

I've been to a Jakob Neilsen conference and found the content to be top-quality. I also like Jared Spool's conferences (uie.com), which always have great speakers and content. Be warned though - the content does not change much from year-to-year, so once you go, imo there's little need to go again for quite a few years.

No, I'm in Austin, so I pretty much have to travel to any conference. Also worthwhile is the IxDA.org's yearly conference, but it just took place early this month.

Awesome thanks Tori - that was just was I was looking for. Are you located in NYC?
