What are the best practices for creating a [green] incubator?

I am in the process of developing an incubator for green enterprise, and was wondering if the community has some advice on how to best help green entrepreneurs.

Success will be measured by the number of green businesses who exit the incubator and operate successfully.

Even though it is an accelerator, checkout the Cleantech Open.  It is almost entirely run by volunteers (myself being one of them) and companies that have gone through the program have raised ~$1B.

Are you familiar with Seed Spot? They are in Arizona.  They are a great example of something like what it sounds like you are considering.

Hi Selma,

You are certainly at the cusp of the latest trend meaning green incubators. I suggest you take a look at http://www.canopyboulder.com which is based in Boulder Colorado and describes itself as

"a mentorship-driven seed-stage investment program for startups in the cannabis industry, with a focus on ancillary products and services."

You can probably learn a lot from their program even though I have not gone through it or experienced it myself.

Good luck

Jason,
That would be great!  When would be a good time?  Also, your numbers were erased, and so I will try to connect with you through LinkedIn.

I am blown away by Fledge. What a powerful vision. Some green accelerators have already been formed (gateway in Oakland and CanopyBoulder in Colorado. We are preparing the launch of NextPitch.tv with the mission of letting the crowd take an active role in financing startups.

A year later, what's the status of the green accelerator?  For the past 4+ years I've run Fledge, the conscious company accelerator, and am happy to share my learnings.

In light of the changes brought about by Reg A+ which finally lets regular investors fuel startups the question arises if it would not be better for your startups to worry less about pitching and more about conveying their message in a short but powerful pitch video. You can see an example of such a compelling video at http://theunlikelystory.us though this was done for a personal project rather than a startup. Indeed it may be interesting for your program to focus on every startup that you take on being prepared for an equity crowdfunding campaign. That is certainly an area where I can help with creating a system for the startups to prepare their listings. After all, what could be better than for a startup to gain potentially thousands of potential evangelists rather than a handful of often backseat drivers.

Here is a summary of some of the most successful CF campaigns for reference.

Nice.  See demo-day.fledge.co for videos of the talks we do at Demo Day at Fledge.  To comply with US Securities law, and because much of our audience are supporters and connectors rather than investors, those talks are aimed to be inspirational TED-like talks rather than investor pitches.

In any case they demonstrate how the initial pitch can be done in video online.  Some (e.g. http://fledge.co/?fledgling=geossy) show how a minute of edited news footage sets the mood better than a talking head.  Others (e.g. http://fledge.co/?fledgling=cropital) show how these videos work even without the big audience.  And one (http://fledge.co/?fledgling=obamastove) shows that you don't need slides if you have a great story to share.
