What are the best sites and resources to learn about SaaS?

In the last 6 months I have seen my business shift from being product based to service. Our next step is into the SAAS business model but I am struggling with finding good resources of information. I'm told that the Automatic Customer was a good read but I wanted to get some more input. Are there any forums that address the business model specifically?

SaaS is a big tent.  If you're interested in the customer success/management side, try Mikael Blaisdell's Customer Success Association and its related Forum (hosted on LI).  http://bit.ly/1NCHnrQ

Hi James, There are a lot of SaaS resources out there - depends on what you are looking for. I'd recommend checking out Jsaon Lemkin's www.saastr.com as well as Lincoln Murphy's blog www.sixteenventures.com and lastly Tomasz Tunguz http://tomtunguz.com/ is a VC who blogs about SaaS. Hope that helps! Chris Bechtel 310-963-5692 bechtel.chris@gmail.com http://about.me/chrisbechtel

David Skok's http://www.forentrepreneurs.com/ blog covers a lot of SAAS topics. Super useful information.

Both "The Automatic Customer" and "Hooked" are excellent resources -- two sides of the same coin, IMO.

That said, they probably apply more towards consumer needs than business needs. In my mind, SaaS is a B2B solution, and that can be a much harder nut to crack and sustain over time. It's also a smaller market that requires a lot more education and higher ASPs than the consumer market (in most respects).

We wrote a book called "Thinking of offering a cloud solution" which has every question that you need to consider if moving from offering a product / on premise solution to SaaS.  So not a fun read, but makes you think of everything and avoid some potentially expensive mistakes.
