What are the most effective pre-launch marketing strategies?

I’m working closely with a few marketing students from the local university. What are the most effective methods and channels for me to get my product out there before we launch (without breaking the bank)? Facebook and LinkedIn groups? Email? We’re aiming for around 2,500 sign-ups and then we’ll have a great group to do some testing/surveying with.

This is an impossible question to answer without knowing more.

The key is to know who your target market is (your IDEAL customer...not anyone with skin or fingers) and where they hang out. In addition to this, the type of product should also be considered.

Your market might be on LinkedIn, however if you are selling a lifestyle product, LinkedIn isn't the proper platform, since professionals are on there looking to learn and talk business, not about their next vacation.

If you already have an email this, hands down, this should be utilized either alone or in conjunction with other marketing. But again you want to make sure the list you have already knows who you are and is the correct target...I am not a fan of buying lists, but working with someone who has a list who could initially mail on your behalf is great.
