What do you consider the most common challenge brands face when designing messaging that’s meant to be shared?

I don’t necessarily trash all messages with different offers or sales to which I, of course, subscribed. There is a big BUT. The offer has to draw my attention and I have to need what they are offering or at least I have to think that I need it. Having this in mind, I am wondering what do you consider most common challenge brands face when designing messaging that’s meant to be shared?
