Gentlemen,

Am I right in gathering from these discussions that there is no one right answer? :)

We have used a number of SM tools to market after doing our demographic studies which including running Twitter and Google ads, doing analytics on the back ends and then tweaking our ads and monitoring the responses in various markets. We had huge success in this area. We also now have a secret formula that works almost meticulously. But, we also now have a SM team that understand that SM marketing is based on statistical and analytical data points.

Hope this helps!

First let me say solid answer.

However I feel that simplicity brings forth great revolation in unveiling a solution to a problem.

His question was his question, his World view his World view,  so how could one state it was too simplistic?

You state his question was too simplistic, but it seems you were rebutting the answer given by Federico as too simplistic.

At any rate, solid insight.

This question over-simplifies social media marketing far too much.

The answer depends entirely on your specific product, target audience and the level of engagement you want from your customers. Even when you know all of that, social media marketing (or any marketing), still requires huge amounts of on-going tweaking until you've maximized your customer throughput.

TL;DR: All of them.

Camille, you had me thinking you'd found the magic formula to SM! Your last sentence is the real magic:

"Hav[ing] a SM team that understands that SM is based on statistical and analytical data points."

Let me add that each social platform can attract a different demographic. So yes, as Camille says, analytics is key to finding where your audience resides. Unlike "spray and pray", you need to experiment to see where your target it.

In my personal experience, Facebook is the best of the social media because you can put more content on there and you can target so many people through interest and behaviors. At the end of the day, you should work all of the social medias and if you notice that one is working better on a quantitative basis, use that one.
