What is the best/simplest way to implement badging on your platform?

Are there any out-of-the-box solutions for implementing and managing badging on a platform?  Trying to determine whether or not it makes sense to spend time/money developing our own in-house solution, or if a plugin/out-of-the-box solution already exists that makes it easier.

Hi Grant, We are currently in a prototype development phase for our "meta"-badging service. Our goal is to make it cheap and easy for colleges and universities to create badges for the student learning objectives related to their curricula. Where does your interest in badging stem from? What types of learning experiences are you trying to badge for? I'd be happy to share more about our model and where we are in the development process with you offline.

Yes don't do it! Badging platforms exist and if you have your own platform your time is better spent learning how to integrate one than buildinguyen another one. We have been using Cred.ly and integrate our content with our customers badging systems. There's also Mozilla Open Badges...what are you trying to do with the badges?

Mozilla has an open gamification platform: http://openbadges.org/

Thanks everyone, for your feedback so far. Realtors make lots of referrals for home service providers to their customers, and aren't organized particularly well - we, at LoyolyPRO, are fixing that by providing a platform for Realtors to use to make their referrals. We help them create their directory, find new services to refer, and track all the activity so they know how much value they are creating.

The badging is meant to reward behaviours in the community. At the start, it would be reasonably straightforward - you would get your first badge when the Realtor makes their first referral. Then, they would get incremental badges at milestones: 5, 10 ,25, 50... referrals.

Similarly, Service Providers would get badges too. They would get their first badge the first time they are referred. Then on milestone: 5, 10, 25, 50...

We would also give out badges for 5% Top Referred [input profession here], and so on.

@George Artem - would be happy to chat...curious to know what you guys are all about.

@ Helen Adeosun...thanks for credly. I have been looking into them. Looks interesting.
