"Thanks to advances in areas such as machine learning, Artificial Intelligence is quickly coming to be seen as one of the most important new general-purpose technologies: something that can be used to enhance the output of almost any computing process." --Financial Times

We are currently testing two different forms of AI in our systems.  We're using one form in a classification engine to understand a potential borrower's spending patterns and habits.  The other is used to encapsulate the knowledge of loan officers, processors and underwriters.  Potential obstacles are the quality of the rules that are written by enginerds who have never underwritten a loan.  If poorly designed, the rules could have unforeseen consequences.  Another potential obstacle is how the engines perform at scale.

Frank,
Maybe it's simply a lack of understanding of AI models and techniques, and therefore, how to use them to design conceptually new products / services and the improvements of existing ones.

Corey,
Your three problems are just technical. For the first one, I would extend a borrower's profile with his / her psychological profile, for example, based on the Big Five Personality Traits Model. It can be computed by using the textual updates in his / her FB and Twitter profiles… If interested, I would be glad to discuss your problems on Skype.
