About David

My background is software engineering, and for the last several years I've been focused on the utility / energy space. I believe that we're at the forefront of major changes in how we make, buy and use energy, and want to build a company that facilitates consumers' participation in this new energy market. US consumers spent ~ US$150B on electricity in 2011, and there are significant opportunities for savings / revenue sharing therein.

I have broad experience and expertise with regulated and de-regulated energy markets and utilities, and have recently been focused on the Texas energy market as being the most progressive / open to disruption.

I've been doing some initial prototyping (Cloud: Google Application Engine and Python; Embedded: Raspberry Pi).

I'm a big believer in the Lean Startup concept, and attended "Startup Lessons Learned" in San Francisco in May 2011. I'm starting to think of this idea in terms of the Business Model Canvas, and Steve Blank's Customer Development.

Ideally, I'm looking for an experienced, business-oriented co-founder, someone who knows the ropes and the pitfalls of starting a company. I expect there to be a significant "social" aspect of the business (marketing directly to consumers), and would appreciate related experience in a co-founder.

Additionally, I'd consider a technical co-founder with strong cloud, big data, and predictive analytics skills (which would compliment my own tech skills and market expertise).
