About Doug

Uncommon common-sense; out-of-the-box thinker; pragmatic, full-stack generalist.
Notable projects: BoatBound, Visa Checkout, PayNearMe.

I'm a freelance web developer, architect and consultant.
For the last seven years I've worked mainly in the Rails/JS technical stack.
I usually help early stage startups with their first or second release.

I did spend two years building an Enterprise SOA at Visa working on what has become Visa Checkout today.
And last year I did my own startup in Elixir, the new ruby-like language built on top of the Erlang VM.

I'm a passionate advocate of Elixir which brings the productivity of Rails and the easy scaling of Erlang.

and complimentary minded cofounders for entrepreneurial pursuits.

While I have lot's of ideas, let me suggest -- in a way -- that ideas don't matter.
It's really about the people -- can they execute.

I've worked best in teams and found it amazing what you can build with a small team of great people.
So, I'm seeking a great designer and perhaps great developers.

But it really not that hard to build things anymore.
The bigger problem is what to build?
...actually this has always been the problem:-)

I believe the customer development process goes a long way to solving this problem.
So, people who understand the Lean Startup, Lean UX, Customer Development, etc. are key for me.
