About Ian

I'm a hydroponics specialist. I've had the fortune to work with and see a number of the Chicago-based hydroponic farms and have come away from all of them realizing that there are clear gaps that can be exploited. While at the non-profit hydroponic farms there tends to be better knowledge of horticulture itself, the knowledge and scalability and commitment to produce are smaller and while the scalability and commitment to produce tend to be much higher at for-profit ventures, the knowledge of horticulture and hydroponics are small. Also, the for-profit hydroponic farms thus far are only focusing on the basic easy produce, i.e. basil, arugula and lettuce. At best they have been unable to successfully grow and maintain fruiting products. Most importantly, they also have terrible designs in regards to labor hours.

I believe there is a wealth of space to be absorbed in this industry and I am looking for a partner(s) to help exploit it. To this end I have spent a great deal of time thinking about the kinds of systems that could be used: simple, problem-free, controlling growth and harvest cycles and keeping costs down. I have a proof-of-concept indoor farm up and running now. I am looking for someone who is interested in this business and who can both lead on the business side and contribute to the build-out and possibly maintenance/growing side.

(I am currently in the Cleveland/Akron area but relocating is possible depending on a number of variables.)
