About Joel

Hello! I'm the CEO of a startup called Writerboy, and I'm looking for CTO with soul to help get this beautiful baby off the ground!

Company + Product

The goal of the Writerboy team is to create a multi-platform productivity suite designed specifically for writers. The product line includes a cloud-based word processor that offers a classic distraction-free writing experience, a mobile note taking application that tethers mobile notes to your documents, and an ePublisher that lets you publish eBooks quickly and easily to our eBook store, which offers over 500,000 titles of all genres.

You can check out some of the initial design work at

What distinguishes Writerboy from other word processing platforms (apart from our sleek designs and feature sets) is that we want to engage the writing community in a way that has never been done. Word processors are typically pretty low on the priority list of the companies that build them, and that's why most of them are lame. On the other hand, Writerboy mulls tirelessly over the UX for every feature. Additionally, we're building a resource library filled with strategy guides, best practices, tutorials, templates, and articles about writing. We also plan to put on writing contests, sposor literary festivals and conferences, and eventually put on festivals of our own.

A burgeoning Full-stacker who can help build and scale the tech side of the business, and has experience in the following:

Responsive web/mobile dev (front/back)
Cloud systems/data wharehouses and platforms
Network security
Scaling and automation
UI asset integration

Langugages & Frameworks:

Java/coffeeScript, NoSQL, Node.js, MongoDB, Backbone

Bonus points for dev work in cloud productivity applications, BI, and/or monetization systems.

Double bonus for experience building and managing dev teams.

Tripple bonus points for an interest in the writing/literary world.

Essentially the guy who manages every other step in the value chain from funding to distribution. My background is in publishing and social/mobile gaming. Before Writerboy I ran operations for Disney Interactive's flagship studio and helped deliver several chart-topping hits including Marvel Avengers Alliance (iOS/And) and Pirates of the Carribean (FB): Isles of War. I have a MFA in Creative Writing. I've also worked for several literary journals, which certainly gives us a nice one-up when it comes to product design and user engagement (among other things).

If any of the above sounds like something you might be interested in, or if you'd like to get involved with Writerboy in any capacity, please drop me a line. I'd love to hear from you!
