About Laura

I am currently a social robotics researcher at Yale University, and will be transitioning full-time to the company I founded, Vän Robotics, in July. I believe that socially-aware robots can make life better for students who struggle with school (and their families), whether it's because of a too-quick pace at school, an attentional issue or a specific learning disability. I am focused on exploring the considerable potential of robots to make life better for children with educational, social and communicative challenges. To this end, I employ various computational and machine learning techniques to give each robot the social intelligence it needs to adapt to and personalize interactions with each student.
