About Martin

Martin’s background is in Human Centered and Industrial Design.
In 2005, he moved from Austria to the US where he built his career at some of the most renowned design consultancies, including fuseproject and IDEO and IDEO.org.
Some highlights of his professional experience:
He was the lead designer for the $100 Laptop (MIT Media Lab), which aimed to foster education for children in developing countries.
During his time at IDEO.org he researched in India and Eastern Africa and was able to design a family of solar lights (d.light) that is appropriate, deliberate and functional for people’s needs in emerging countries.
In Ethiopia, he set out to develop a manual teff seed planter (with Agricultural Transformation Agency). The result was the design of a simple and affordable solution that increases yield of teff, the most common crop in the country.
In 2016, Martin founded Suntap, a new-to-the-world product that serves as a minimal viable solar hot water system. Together with his professional network of creatives, engineers and business designers he was able to lay the foundation for his vision to bring hot water to the emerging middle class.
