About Matt

Hi everyone! My name's Matt Schaar. I'm passionate about technology, education, and livable cities, and I know I have the chops to turn an idea into a kick-ass company.

I founded Brush Labs in 2012 after a decade-long career as an aerospace engineer and strategy consultant for some of the world's most prominent organizations. I focused on organizational strategy, top-line revenue growth, strategic due diligence, and operational excellence while at BCG. I've applied these experiences from the executive levels of Fortune 500 companies in order to improve the functional capability of startups, social enterprises, and educational organizations.

Before BCG, I completed my studies at The University of Michigan, obtaining my MBA and Master of Public Policy degrees; my primary areas of focus were in corporate strategy, Base of the Pyramid business development, and education policy. During my graduate studies, I co-founded a clean tech startup focused on environmentally-friendly production of silane gas, an important component in solar cell manufacturing. I served as the team's VP of Technology, interacting with our researchers on a daily basis. In three months, we quickly secured over $45,000 in funding from a variety of business plan competitions.

I also completed my undergraduate studies at Michigan; I graduated With Honors with a BS in Aerospace Engineering and began my career with Rolls-Royce, plc and The Boeing Company, where I engaged with clients regarding critical technical issues on six continents and completed exchange programs in Germany and China.

I'm a nerd at heart, and I'm functionally literate when it comes to HTML/CSS, Javascript, and Ruby. I embrace the jargon a technical co-founder uses, and I'll probably ask you a million questions about it. :)

I'd love to hear more about your idea and to see if we're a good match to make great things happen. I'm flexible geographically, so don't worry a bit about location.
